A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF WHAT TO EXPECT

You have at least 5 years of management experience and significant experience in the maritime field?Under the supervision of the Director of Fleet Maintenance, you will assist the latter in managing harbour towage fleet maintenance activities, controlling costs, optimizing maintenance activities and managing dry docks and major work.

You will also be responsible for supply management and the direct supervision of the maintenance department’s multidisciplinary team.

RESPONSIBILITIES YOU WILL BE ENTRUSTED WITH

Management of harbour towage fleet maintenance activities (40%)                                                                                          

  • Support the director in managing the activities in his department to ensure efficient conduct of fleet maintenance in the Towing and Navigation sector (quality, costs, deadlines)
  • Ensure that maintenance operations are conducted in accordance with the technical specifications of vessels and equipment, government authorities’ regulations and the allocated budget
  • Collaborate to the implementation of programs aimed at ensuring effective use of his team, equipment and materials to achieve the maintenance objectives set in collaboration with the superintendents and supervisors of the various ports
  • Establish means to ensure the safety of vessels (equipment, personnel under his responsibility)
  • Cooperate to investigations of incidents that caused damage to vessels and to environment and, if necessary, assess the cost of repairs
  • Support the director in the implementation of preventive maintenance and repair programs (SINEX) and ensure that the members of his team make optimal use of them

Cost control and maintenance activities optimization (15%)

  • Participate in the development of indicators to ensure the control of costs related to operations (e.g.: tug’s speed, fuel, overtime, etc.)
  • Help establish budgetary needs for maintenance and repairs related to regular operations and control maintenance expense based on the approved budget
  • Participate in the implementation of actions that enable solving productivity issues
  • Work with departments (QHSE, Operations, HR, etc.) to ensure that our clients are given priority in our practices
  • Support the implementation of new features arising from continuous development (support, promote, get involved in reflections, decisions and communications)

Dry docks and major work management (15%)

  • Participate in the establishment of the budgets related to dry-dock work to be performed, in collaboration with the management of the shipbuilding and naval repair sector
  • Assess needs related to dry docks and technical stoppages and submit them to the Director of Fleet Maintenance
  • Develop detailed technical specifications for the work to be performed during dry docks and technical stoppages and notify the management of the shipbuilding and naval repair sector
  • Monitor dry-dock work

Operations support (10%)

  • Collaborate in decisions about the maintenance of and major changes to equipment in ports
  • Support and assist superintendents in the negotiation and interpretation of regulations with inspection authorities (Transport Canada) and classification societies
  • Advise and support superintendents in the assessment of the nature of equipment defects and failures
  • Participate in the development of plans and specifications to manufacture, repair and build the components required to improve vessels

Supply management (10%)

  • Ensure supply of the parts and material required as part of the work to be performed
  • Prepare the requisitions required in compliance with the company’s purchasing and procurement policies
  • Take the necessary steps to replace one or more pieces of equipment according to the terms agreed with the General Manager
  • Support the director in the control of expenditures in his department according to allocated budgets

Human resources management (10%)

  • Ensure the promotion and respect of occupational safety standards within his team
  • Participate in the staff hiring process for his department
  • Assess the performance of the staff under his supervision in accordance with the established policy
  • Take measures to maintain a good work atmosphere and a good level of motivation within his team
  • Ensure that the employees in his department comply with the company’s standards and policies
  • Seize every opportunity to involve and mobilize staff members and have them commit to Ocean’s orientations (engagement)
  • Lead health and safety committees
  • Assist the Director in disciplinary action and unsatisfactory performance cases as needed

 

PROFILE SOUGHT

  • Advanced certificate in marine engineering (minimum 2nd class)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Administration, Transportation) (asset)
  • Significant experience in the marine field (regulations and shipbuilding)
  • Five (5) years of experience in a management position
  • Bilingual (French, English)
  • Available to travel outside the city and sometimes outside the province of Quebec
  • Knowledge of Office Suite software
  • Knowledge of SAP (asset)
