Help for the MV Avataq
Drifting in the Far North
Salluit, September 25, 2009 – The MV Avataq, a 113 metre long vessel experiences engine problems on September 25, 2009, when winds exceeding 80 km/h drag it across the bay near the community of Salluit. The Avataq’s engines had broken down, causing it to drift for three days in Hudson Strait. The Ocean Delta is called to the rescue, towing the ship to its various destinations so it could deliver awaited supplies to northern communities between Salluit and Igloolik.
