Québec City, March 2011 – Ocean, via its St-Maurice dredging division, was awarded a contract to conduct maintenance dredging on two sections of the St. Lawrence Seaway: in the North Traverse between Saint-Jean-de-l'Île-d'Orléans and Cap Gribane (Côte-de-Beaupré) and in Bécancour. The seven-year contract, worth nearly $30 million, will start in summer 2012.

Maintenance dredging in these areas represents the most substantial dredging work required in the St. Lawrence Seaway between Montreal and Isle-aux-Coudres.

To carry out the dredging work safely, a new 70 metre long trailing suction hopper dredge will have to be constructed, at a cost of $25 million. This self-powered dredger, the biggest in Eastern Canada, will be built at the Ocean Industries shipyard on Isle-aux-Coudres.
