Technical miracle on opera arias
Québec, August 6, 2016 – Powering from 3,000 to 4,000 bombs from a barge held in place by two tugs moving in changing tide is what roughly summarizes the technical challenge that we achieved for the 2016 edition of the Grands Feux Loto-Québec’s kick off.
In addition to the explosive performance under the theme of the opera, the crowd gathered on the St.Lawrence shores for the first fireworks have been spectators of a true technical miracle.
First, between 3,000 and 4,000 aerial bombs from 70 to 200 mm in diameter were stacked on a 150 x 35 feet barge. That same barge was then positioned in the middle of the St.Lawrence, equidistant from both sides of the river.
The important depth of this strategic location has required the services of two Ocean’s tugs to maintain the barge in place. The ships, placed on both sides of the barge, have consistently pulled the barge in opposite direction to keep it in position and do not drift with the current and the rising tide.
Five more shows are scheduled every Wednesday and Saturday, from August 10 to 24.
