Ocean Group wins life extension contract for Canadian Coast Guard vessel CCGS Martha L. Black

The Canadian coast guard (CCG) recently awarded a major contract to Ocean Group for the life extension of its vessel, the CCGS Martha L. Black. This decision marks an important step in Canada’s ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the CCG’s fleet of vessels.

The CCGS Martha L. Black, named after the famous Yukon pioneer, is a light icebreaker been used by the CCG for many years as a buoy tender. Built in 1986, the vessel stands out for its versatility and maneuverability.

The major refit of the CCGS Martha L. Black will involve a number of works, including the replacement of the three main engines, sandblasting and painting of the hull, the exhaust and auxiliary systems piping which will be redone, various works in the wheelhouse and accommodations, on the helicopter hangar and on the hull valves, to name but a few.
