OCEAN TUNDRA: a new, ultra-powerful tug, efficient and versatile for the North Shore

Isle-aux-Coudres, 2013 – Ocean Industries’ shipyard completes the construction of the most powerful harbour tug ever built in Eastern Canada. It will be available for various operations on the North Shore, including harbour towing, escort services, short- and long-distance towing, salvage and wreck recovery operations.

Based on a design by the Robert Allan Ltd. naval architecture firm, this 36-metre tug is equipped with the latest technologies and can operate in the most extreme conditions. Its hull is reinforced and certified 1A Super FS for ice navigation and its engines have an output of 8,160 hp. It is powered by two omnidirectional Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) propellers and has a total bollard pull of 113 metric tons.

Its construction represented 14 months of work for some 160 workers in the Charlevoix region.
