Under the supervision of the project manager, you organize, attend and control the achievement of the projects. You supervise mechanical maintenance work on the company’s vessels.  You are responsible for the planning, preparation and supervision of mechanical maintenance and repair work, including supervision of the personnel of the projects assigned to you.



Project management (50%)

  • Monitor, coordinate and plan activities of projects under your responsibility;
  • Establish methods to meet project schedules by coordinating activities with stakeholders;
  • In collaboration with the Director, assess the human resources needs and set up work teams;
  • Coordinate transportation of materials, equipment and personnel to the sites;
  • Plan and coordinate marine transportation, docking, undocking and installation of barges as per projects;
  • Develop and recommend procedures and work processes as required. Ensure that existing procedures are followed by staff and that necessary documentation is completed;
  • Attend to each step of the projects and make corrections if necessary;
  • Facilitate health and safety committees and ensure participation of members;
  • Evaluate the environmental and geographical conditions related to the projects.


Planning and supervision of mechanical maintenance and repairs (30%)

  • Plan, coordinate, supervise and verify scheduled routine and preventive mechanical maintenance (SINEX system) and unplanned work and repairs;
  • Inspect and examine tugboat mechanical systems for malfunctions and failures;
  • Review plans, drawings and sketches related to the maintenance and repair/renovation of vessels and barges (maintenance guides, manufacturers’ guides, etc.);
  • Plan, with the mechanical department, the work required during dry docks. Prepare purchase orders for required parts and ensure that an engineer  officer prepares the vessel adequately;
  • Participate in dockside and sea trials of maintained or repaired mechanical systems; recommend and ensure the implementation of necessary corrective measures;
  • Inspect maintenance and repair work on vessels and barges to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, classification societies and Transport Canada standards;
  • Coordinate subcontracting work on vessels and communicate maintenance recommendations to those concerned;
  • Evaluate material needs with suppliers and communicate them to the purchasing department;
  • Ensure the development of skills of the engineer officers on the various projects;
  • Write progress reports on mechanical projects.


Human resources management (20%)

  • Distribute work to employees under your responsibility and supervise them in collaboration with ON’s management team;
  • Validate the work time of employees for each project;
  • Train or ensure the training of employees (SMS, ARP, online training, etc.);
  • Evaluate the quality of work of the employees and establish productivity objectives with them;
  • Solve work-related problems and propose ways to improve productivity;
  • Promote and apply health, safety and environmental rules to employees under your supervision;
  • Ensure that captains carry out health, safety and environmental inspections;
  • Follow up on certification of all navigation crews;
  • Apply rules of the collective agreement for unionized employees.



  • Marine engineering certificate (asset);
  • PMP Certification (asset);
  • College or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline (engineering, administration, transportation) (asset);
  • Experience in the maritime field (asset);
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in a management position;
  • Bilingualism in written and spoken French and English;
  • Availability to travel;
  • Knowledge of the Office software suite;
  • Knowledge of SAP (asset).
