A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF WHAT TO EXPECT

Reporting to the Tug Boat Captain and Superintendent, the incumbent will perform mechanical operations and maintenance on Z-Drive vessel. The incumbent will be required to work in the Port of Kingston, Jamaica.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES YOU WILL BE ENTRUSTED WITH

  • Maintain and perform servicing service of the main engine and auxiliary equipment;
  • Operate electrical, mechanical and hydraulic control systems as well as replenishment-at-sea equipment;
  • Operate and maintain refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning equipment;
  • Monitor and execute tasks preventive maintenance tasks
  • Ensure the implementation of the safety management system (SINEX) in his department;
  • Monitor the functioning parameters of the main engine (pressure, temperature, levels) and report any irregularity;
  • Provide assistance in the preparation of Internal Audits on vessels to ensure compliance;
  • Oversee and participate in bunkering processes;
  • Participate in emergency drills or real situations as mustered;
  • Conduct toolbox meetings and participate in Health and Safety Committee Meetings;
  • Maintain and monitor inventories of tool, critical spares, shore based and shipboard assets;
  • Monitor and maintain fuel inventory and daily consumptions;
  • Report to Superintendent any situation which may cause vessel downtime or equipment malfunction;
  • Report (verbal/written) to the Tug Captain as required on the overall status of the engine room and vessel operations.

 

PROFILE SOUGHT

  • Hold a certificate of competency to act as Chief Engineer on board a tug of over 3000 KW in near coastal;
  • Hold a medical certificate issued by Maritime Authority of Jamaica;
  • Hold a certificate of proficiency of Advanced First aid;
  • Hold a certificate of proficiency of Basic Safety training, ability to operate lifeboats and rescue boats other than fast-rescue boats and advanced firefighting techniques;
  • Hold a certificate of proficiency of Designated Ship Security Duties;
  • Have 3 to 5 years of experience as Engineer Officer;
  • Good knowledge of diesel motor mechanics;
  • Available to work on a rotation schedule.
