BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION

As an incumbent, you will perform towing maneuvers on a tug, lead a crew and ensure the management of the maintenance of the vessel.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a crew and ensure the smooth running of maneuvers;
  • Ensure that the vessel and crew are certified for the area of operation;
  • Ensure the proper functioning of the vessel’s equipment;
  • Ensure the seaworthiness of the vessel in all conditions;
  • Prepare and validate repair and modification lists with the Chief Engineer;
  • Inspect material, structure and equipment according to the SINEX maintenance program;
  • Promote and maintain the health and safety of all persons on board the vessel;
  • Implement the company’s safety and environmental protection policies;
  • Implement and audit the company’s SMS system;
  • Operate vessels in compliance with company and industry recognized practices.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Two (2) to five (5) years experience as a conventional tug captain;
  • Experience as an officer on a vessel equipped with a SMS system;
  • Customer service oriented;
  • Good stress management (medium to high);
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Openness to learning and development;
  • Leadership and excellent teamwork skills;
  • Experience on ASD tugs (asset);
  • Experience in docking vessels (major asset).

 

CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certificate of competency of 500T or more;
  • Valid Marine Medical;
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Marine Emergency Duties -STCW Basic Safety (STCW BS);
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Marine Emergency Duties – Lifeboat Other than Fast Boat (STCW PSC);
  • Marine Emergency Duties Certificate – Advanced Firefighting (STCW AFF);
