A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF WHAT TO EXPECT

The captain participates in the realization of dredging projects in Canada and abroad, on board the Ocean Traverse Nord. In addition to being responsible for the ship’s operations, he will have to ensure the management of the crew, as well as the proper functioning of on-board equipment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES YOU WILL BE ENTRUSTED WITH

  • Act as responsible for ships navigation and maneuvers;
  • See to the smooth running of dredging operations;
  • Plan and supervise the work of the crew;
  • Follow up daily on the project’s progress and adapt dredging operations accordingly;
  • Ensure proper functioning of on-board equipment;
  • See to the ship’s stability in any conditions;
  • Prepare and validate repair and modification lists with the Chief Engineer;
  • Maintain health and safety for everyone aboard the ship;
  • Supervise the maintenance of all on-board equipment;
  • Comply with all relevant regulations concerning ship operation;
  • Implement safety and environmental protection policies

 

PROFILE SOUGHT

  • Hold a 3000 gross tonnage near coastal Class 1 Captain Certificate;
  • Hold a sea safety certificate issued by Transport Canada;
  • Experience as a ship’s captain;
  • Leadership as well as supervision and planning skills;
  • Able to adapt to unforeseen events;
  • Good at communication;
  • Hold a valid Canadian passport;
  • Available for trips outside Canada;
  • Dredging experience or with azimuth thruster ships (Z-drive) (an asset)
