Québec City, August 16, 2012 – Ocean christened its new trailing suction hopper dredge, the Ocean Traverse Nord today. It was built this past year at the Ocean Industries shipyard on Isle-aux-Coudres. The $25 million shipbuilding project—the biggest ever in Eastern Canada and Ocean’s first dredge—created some fifty new jobs at the shipyard and generated major direct and indirect economic spinoffs for Québec's region, especially in Charlevoix.

The over 64-metre long dredge is equipped with the latest technology, can dredge up to 30 metres deep and has a pumping capacity of 5,500 m3 per hour. It is powered by two Z-drive omnidirectional propellers and two 1,000 HP motors.
