Transportation by barge of components for the shipyard
Ingenuity in transportation
Québec, August 2013 - After completing the construction of the OCEAN TUNDRA tug's wheelhouse at the workshops of Fabrication Navale Ocean in Québec, the latter should be transported at Ocean Industries to be fitted to the rest of the ship.
The massive steel structure, which cannot be transported on road 138, had to be moved using sectional barges on the Seaway. Once out of the workshops, it was brought down on the barges with a crane and then escorted by a tug to the shipyard at l’Isle-aux-Coudres.
The ship’s escort winch was also transported from Québec to the shipyard by barges, as the loading ramp of the ferry in St-Joseph-de-la-Rive could not accommodate the 80,000-lbs monster.
