Construction of the most powerful harbor tug

A new ultra powerful tug, efficient and versatile for the North Shore

Isle-aux-Coudres, December 2013 – Ocean Industries’ shipyard completes the construction of the most powerful harbor tug ever built in Eastern Canada. It will be available for various operations on the North Shore including towing, escort services, short and long distance towing as well as salvage and recovery of shipwrecks.

Based on a concept of naval architectural firm Robert Allan Ltd., the new 36-meter tug is equipped with the latest technology and can operate in the most extreme conditions. The hull of the TUNDRA tug is reinforced and certified 1A Super FS for ice navigation and its engines have an output of 8,160 BHP. It is powered by two omnidirectional Z-drive propellers and has a total bollard pull of over 100 metric tons.

Its construction represented 14 months of work for some 160 workers in the Charlevoix region.
