De-icing a cargo boat
State-of-the-art methods to brave the elements
Québec, January 2010 – A cargo ship arrives in the Port of Québec covered in an extremely thick layer of ice—a dangerous situation that can seriously affect the ship’s stability. Access to safety and loading equipment, such as the winch at the front of the vessel, is also very limited. Five crew members tried to remove the ice by hand, but in vain. So the team called on the know-how of Ocean Dreadgin DSM Inc. Using innovative methods, Ocean staff removes 450 tons of ice in 22 hours, restoring the ship’s stability.
