Environmental dredging in the Port of Valleyfield
Efficient and safe dredging
Valleyfield, April 2007 – The Port of Valleyfield calls on the services of Dredging DSM Inc. to carry out environmental dredging work in cooperation with Théorêt Excavation. A total of 4,000 m3of contaminated sediments are removed to enable fully loaded vessels to dock. The work requires the use of a dredge (equipped with a 50 ton crane and clamshell), barges and two tugs. Due to the level of contamination, a containment boom has to be installed to minimize the amount of suspended matter. The residue are transported to the wharf where it was picked up by Xtrata for decontamination.
