Marine Construction Contractors : Marine Equipment Rental
Construction of the A. Lepage wharf, a project worth over 30 million dollars and undertaken by EBC. This project represents a great challenge, as we found ourselves faced with rocky marine floors at very low depths, and particularly difficult climate conditions in the Baie des Ha! Ha!
These obstacles forced engineers and workers to develop new work methods as well as new tools. To ensure stability, the cruise ship wharf will lie on 160 4-foot diameter spuds anchored several hundred feet under the bay's surface. Together, the spuds total over 8 kilometres in length! These spuds were transported on water via a special barge and then lifted with floating cranes before being sunk underwater. Our barges anchored on the bay serve as a floating construction yard. Cement mixers will be brought on board the barges in order to fill the spuds in place. The filling of these structures, anchored at an average 120-foot depth, will necessitate enough concrete for the foundations of 260 houses.
