Ship Owners and Agents : Ship & Industrial Repair
On December 22nd, a cargo ship arrived at the Port of Quebec covered in an impressive layer of ice. A situation such as this represents a serious hasard to the vessel's stability. Access to safety and operation equipment, such as the winch at the front of the vessel, had also become very limited.
Five members of the crew attempted to remove the ice manually and, after approximately three hours of effort, had managed to remove only 3 ft2 of ice. At that pace, it is easy to imagine that the work would have taken about two weeks to accomplish!
So, they called on the expertise of our naval repair division. Thanks to our employees' know-how and use of the latest technology, 450 tonnes of ice were removed within 22 hours, thus reinstating stability and safety to the vessel.
