Dredging in the Port of Valleyfield

In April 2007, the Port of Valleyfield called on Océan Construction's services to carry out environmental dredging, in collaboration with Théorêt Excavation, between sections 1 and 2 at the port.  4 000 m3 of contaminated sediment had to be removed to allow the passage and docking of loaded vessels.

The work was carried out with the following equipment:

• Dredge Dredge Raymond D, equipped with a 50-ton crane and a 2½ v3 clamshell
• Barges NHBM Hopper No 1 and No. 2 each with a loading capacity of 115m³ to 150m³
• Workboats Phil D and Roxane D

Due to the level of contamination, and in order to minimise suspended matter, a containment curtain was required during the entire operations

The residue was transported to the dock where the company Xstrata took possession of it for decontamination.
