Extreme cold causes ice jams on the Saint Lawrence

The extreme cold weather conditions which have been prevailing this winter caused quite a few headaches on the Saint Lawrence.  On January 14, 2009, the tanker Diamond Star was trapped in the heavy ice in Rimouski.  After several attempts to free herself, Petronav called on our tug, the Ocean Raymond Lemay, to break up the ice and clear a path for the Diamond Star.  With its Z-Drive engine of 5,000 hp and its Ice Class 1AFS hull, the Ocean Raymond Lemay made clearing the unusually dense ice seem like child's play.

To avoid any problems when the tanker returned to Rimouski, the Ocean Charlie was called on to clear the ice in the channel with the help of the Canadian Coast Guard, turn the vessel, and finally dock it in such a way that it could depart without further assistance.
